  Certified General Accountants Canada
  In March 2008, the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada (CGA–Canada) and CPA Australia entered into a mutual recognition agreement (MRA) to further develop the relationship between the two bodies and establish guidelines on how qualified members can gain reciprocal membership. In February 2013, the Certified General Accountants Association of Canada (CGA–Canada) and CPA Australia renewed the mutual recognition agreement (MRA) for a further five-year term.
 
  Pathway to membership
  The following steps demonstrate the pathway for CGA–Canada members to become an Associate member of CPA Australia under the conditions of the MRA.
 
  Step 1: Determine eligibility
 
  CPA Australia accepts membership applications from around the globe. If you are a full member of CGA–Canada, you are eligible to apply for CPA Australia membership if you:
 
  are a member of good standing and not under any investigation for professional conduct infringements
 
  did not gain entry through another mutual recognition agreement
 
  have successfully completed: the CGA-Canada Program of Professional Studies
 
  the CGA-Canada practical experience requirement
 
  You will also need one of the following:
  a university degree approved by CGA–Canada or the relevant provincial body
 
  a university degree recognised by the Australian Education International – National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition as being equivalent to Australian bachelor degree level (this will be determined during the assessment of your application)
 
  fifteen years of accounting-related work experience, with at least five years at a senior level
 
  Direct entry to CPA status
  You may be eligible for an exemption from the additional education requirements if you have successfully completed an MBA with course content covering corporate governance and global strategy and leadership. This is assessed individually and transcripts are required to support your application. You may be requested to provide a detailed course syllabus to support your exemption application.
 
  Step 2: Complete application
 
  Complete the application form below and submit it with the following:
  payment for an assessment and membership fee
 
  certified true copies of 100 points of identification (see application form for points values)
 
  certified true copies of university academic awards and official transcripts, or workplace testimonial
 
  certified true copies of official transcripts from CGA–Canada
 
  a letter of good standing, which can be obtained from a CGA–Canada affiliate office. This must contain: the date you joined CGA–Canada
 
  the date you achieved your current member status
 
  the date your membership fees are paid until
 
  confirmation you have completed the practical experience requirements
 
  confirmation you are not under any disciplinary sanctions or investigations and have not been subject to any disciplinary sanctions in the past five years
 
  confirmation you are not a member through another mutual recognition agreement
 
  certified true copies of change of name documentation (if applicable)
 
  Step 3: Submit application
 
  Send your application with certified true copies of your documents to ma.comms@cpaaustralia.com.au or mail them to:

  Alternatively, you can mail your application to your nearest CPA Australia office.
 
  Step 4: Processing of application
 
  Your application will take approximately 10 to 15 working days to process. If there are any queries about your application, a CPA Australia employee will contact you.
 
  If your application is successful, an email will be sent to you informing you of your success. A welcome pack will follow by mail.
 
  If your application is unsuccessful, an email will be sent to you outlining the reasons why. We will provide advice about how you can meet CPA Australia's membership requirements.
 
  Step 5: Advance to CPA status
 
  Once you become an Associate member of CPA Australia, you must complete the following study unit within two years:
  CPD063 – Better Practice in Governance and Accountability
 
  Upon completion of this course you will advance to CPA status. You will receive a CPA certificate and will then be able to use the CPA designation.
